Usability testing
Testing with participants

During a test Yu Centrik interface usability experts can apply many techniques to gather data from users, such as:
- “Thinking Aloud,” or verbal protocol. This consists of transcribing spontaneous user comments as he/she tries the product. This method allows us to understand the user’s thought process regarding the project.
- Performance observation: which allows the observer to determine the level of success or failure regarding various task scenarios being asked of the participant.
The tests unfold as follows: objectives are set and, based on predetermined scenarios, each participant is asked to perform specific tasks. The participant is then asked to comment his or her strategy.
Each session is recorded. Data collected throughout the test is then compiled and analyzed and the usability “red flags” are identified.
Usability tests are conducted from a cross section of users. A minimum number of participants is required to assure significant results. The higher the number of participants, the higher the percentage of problems identified.
Tests can be held at the Yu Centrik offices, at the client’s offices or from a remote location. It is our goal to please and accommodate our clientele, therefore our testing “infrastructure” is portable. Clients are also invited to observe testing as it unfolds.
Deliverables: an elaborate test report including recommendations for interface improvement as well as an audio-visual record of the actual test proceedings.
